Miss Yunks wanted to make a cute dessert to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. She searched one of her favorite dessert blogs for inspiration and found these adorable turkey cake pops made by Bakerella. I must make these! I thought.
And so began the search for the fall colored candy corn and the perfect small candies for the turkey faces. It’s really hard to find candy corn after Halloween season. Luckily, there is a candy store near my house and they had everything I needed!
My turkey cake balls differ from Bakerella’s in a few ways:
1. I used dark chocolate espresso beans; she used lighter colored beans
2. I used eye candy sprinkles for the eyes; she used an edible pen to draw them
3. I made my cake balls too fat/heavy for the sticks; she made them the right size obviously…but turkeys don’t fly anyways so my family agreed they look better fatter and on the ground. Thanks family
I used devil’s chocolate ultra moist cake mix and creamy vanilla frosting. If I ever make cake balls again, I would not use the ultra moist mix. It made the balls hard to work with. Dipping the cake balls in the chocolate and then attaching the feathers, legs, and faces was a challenge. My sister was a great assistant and stuck on the accessories while my hands were covered in chocolate.
The Flock
One little turkey up close.
Please ignore the squished cake ball and focus on the funny face.
