Last week this time it was Thanksgiving (feels like just yesterday) and today is the first day of Hanukkah. You can always count on Thanksgiving to fall on November 20-something, but Hanukkah, well this holiday just shows up whenever it feels like it. Or so it seems.
For the first night of Hanukkah, I wanted to eat something with potatoes but something low maintenance. Too soon for latkes. I decided I’d have a relaxing night with cheese fries, a glass of wine, and Eat, Pray, Love. I was never interested in watching this movie but Colleen’s post made me think it was a good idea!
I got all of the ingredients for the #1 Cheese Sauce A-Tooch wrote about here and got started.
I used flour instead of cornstarch and it worked just fine. I also used extra amounts of all of the spices, perhaps too much Frank’s hot sauce. But once I started splashing the hot sauce into the mix I got carried away. I also have no idea how much cheese I used. I didn’t have a good way to measure 4 oz. so I guestimated and taste-tested my way through this cheese sauce. I really liked the final product – feel free to play around with your ingredient measurements too!
I’ll also mention that I never (until now) buy frozen fries. I was so surprised that the bag says it contains 9 servings yet is the amount is maybe 2-3 restaurant size servings. So, I probably ate 4 servings of fries. Hey if restaurants can over-serve on fries then so can I.
How good does this look? So good, so cheesy! (and spicy – oops!)
This cheese fry is coming right at you!
Happy Hanukkah everyone!

Can’t go wrong with cheese. Happy Hanukkah to you too!
Awesome! Sounds like a perfect night to me. I curled up with a glass of wine, a big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, and my Mac last night. Spent the night writing blog posts and just chilling.
