A few weekends ago, Miss Yunks and BF visited BF’s sister and husband in Connecticut. Because they live close to Mystic, CT, and because I hadn’t been there in about 12 years, we walked around the little town Sunday morning to do some exploring after brunch. We popped into some cute shops, enjoyed some ice cream, and picked up a pizza to take home for dinner.
Okay, so another major reason I wanted to check out Mystic, CT was to try Mystic Pizza. I know I had it the last time I was there with my family because a souvenir pizza box is still in my sister’s bedroom at our parents’ house. We’re such a foodie family. Even thought I’d certainly been there before, I didn’t remember anything about Mystic Pizza. And that just wasn’t okay – I had to try it again.
The restaurant is decorated with photos and posters from the movie Mystic Pizza, which was inspired by the restaurant, and in the upstairs dining room the movie plays continuously. I’ve never seen the movie, so that’s next on my list. We waited for our pizza to go and packed it in the car for our two hour drive home. I reheated the pizza at home and it still smelled and tasted as good as I imagine it tastes fresh from the oven. The crust is crispy on the bottom and sturdy enough to hold the mounds of cheese. The tomato sauce has a mix of special secret spices that pair perfectly with the browned cheese. The flavors and textures reminded us of the Sicilian slices from Pinocchio’s Pizza in Harvard Square. If you’re traveling to or near Mystic, CT, I recommend you veer off your path for some Mystic Pizza. If you want some similarly great pizza immediately, head to Harvard Square!

This pizza looks incredible! So much better than the lame sandwich I’m eating right now. 😉
