Last weekend was a good weekend. Two of A-Tooch’s obsessions made an appearance — Syracuse basketball and Top Chef.
After the big Syracuse win, BF and I went searching for a celebratory dinner in the barren wasteland known as the area near the Verizon Center in DC. Enter: Top Chef contestant Mike Isabella’s Graffiato. Two things that always impress me when traveling outside of NYC: lower prices and not having to wait 3 hours for a good restaurant on a Saturday night. (I still love you, NYC.)
Graffiato is an Italian tapas style, casual joint. The homemade pizzas looked great, but we went straight for a combination of small plates like homemade gnocchi, burrata with kumquat puree, charred asparagus and chicken liver mousse.
We sat at a long bar and watched the chefs at work in the kitchen. This, I love. We felt totally comfortable still in our Syracuse garb, with rock music playing and beers flowing. What a good find. Highly recommend for date night, or a drop in if you’re in the area.
