If the pumpkin cupcake topper isn’t enough of a hint, this is another overdue post. About a month ago, I visited BestFriend J in her new Back Bay apartment. J was prepping to run a practice 20 miles for her marathon training the next day and wanted some of her favorite fro-yo for a treat. J loves J.P. Licks fro-yo and now that she lives very close to the Newbury St. location, it’s an easy walk away. I was excited to go to J.P. Licks for another reason: cupcakes!
I like the flavor of ice cream, but I’d much rather eat cake or a brownie. I’d seen J.P.’s cupcakes and read about them on Fork It Over, Boston’s Cupcake Quest. I first fed my curiosity and sampled the noodle kugel ice cream (it really tasted like kugel) and then ordered a cupcake. Even though they sell cupcakes, I feel like the staff is surprised when people order them. With all that ice cream it looks almost silly to get a cupcake, but I’m glad to have other options!
The mountain of frosting on this giant Fall themed cupcake was utterly delicious. Could they use less? Sure. But it tastes so wonderful I’m not complaining. I like this cupcake because it tastes like a true bakery cupcake, rather than one from an upscale cupcakery. The frosting is fresh and light, not too buttery or sweet but just the right amount. The chocolate cake was a simple comforting chocolate. I often like simple foods and desserts better than gourmet ones, so this cupcake was right up my alley. Plus, it’s so big! Bonus points for serving me a cupcake too big to eat in one sitting.

Sounds yummy to me! The Cold Stone ice cream cupcakes are soooo good- have you tried those?
I read about these cupcakes on Rachel’s blog too and I’m dying to try them…and the noodle kugel ice cream!
The mountain if frosting is making me drool. Must get to JP Licks ASAP!!
Glad you liked it! The one I tried had much different frosting – more of a homemade melty chocolate sort of thing – so I guess this means I have to go back and try another one
