Miss Yunks and A-Tooch reunited in NYC this past weekend for a jam-packed weekend of events. Miss Yunks came to the city to watch J run her first-ever NYC Marathon. Of course, a series of foodie events were carefully planned around the race!
No time was wasted — Miss Yunks got off the train on Saturday and headed right to the East Village, where A-Tooch anxiously awaited to take her to Butter Lane. We sampled three cupcake combinations (we always order one extra for good measure…) The chalkboard menu displays cake flavors and frosting flavors. The customer can mix and match or order a suggested flavor combination. The three cake flavors offered are chocolate, vanilla, and banana. We tried one of each.
(L to R — chocolate cake with sea salted chocolate frosting, vanilla cake with pumpkin frosting, banana cake with caramel frosting)
We know a thing or two about cupcakes by now, so we managed to picked the right flavor combinations. Overall, Butter Lane cupcakes are a manageable size (ahem, Crumbs), moist and fresh. The kitchen is open so you can watch as the staff delicately frosts each cupcake. A-Tooch waited with bated breath to see if Miss Yunks would finally, after all this time, fall in love with her favorite NYC cupcake spot. Final decision — a win! However, we each ranked them in order of preference a little differently.
Chocolate cake with sea salted chocolate frosting… Miss Yunks ranked # 2 and A-Tooch ranked #3
Seasonal special – vanilla cake with pumpkin frosting…Miss Yunks ranked #3 and A-Tooch ranked #2
We both ranked the banana cake with caramel frosting #1!
At $3 a pop they are in the high range, but the little shop is too cute to pass. The cupcake connoisseur approved, and scooped up two extra cupcakes in a box for her apartment hosts. A successful start to a successful foodie weekend.

Sea salt frosting sounds yummy!
The banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting is my absolute favorite there! It’s one block from my apartment – dangerous!
