When the craving calls, you can’t fight it and you will go to any extreme to satisfy the urge. In a rush to cure her cupcake craving this weekend, A-Tooch ventured around the corner to Tu-lu’s, a gluten-free bakery.
Bf was so stunned by their beauty… he took some cupcake glamour shots.
I have plenty of friends who are vegan, vegetarian (hey there, Miss Yunks!) and gluten-free eaters, don’t get me wrong. But me, I’m an omnivore. I’ve tasted a few gluten-free treats in the past and haven’t had much success. Too grainy tasting, too flavorless, just generally weird in texture and/or flavor. I’ve walked by Tu-lu’s, a block from my apartment, a bunch of times in the past though. Why not?
Cute little storefront, smells like a bakery, the stuff on the counter sure looks like a bakery…
We got three mini cupcakes – (L to R) Vegan vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, Chocolate cake with vanilla cream cheese icing and Cherry cake with cherry buttercream.
I was pleasantly surprised! These things were delish and the cherry cake/buttercream combination was unique, sweet, tart and decadent. To be honest, I wouldn’t trust myself to whip up any gluten-free baked goods but dropping into Tu-lu’s restored my faith in vegan and gluten-free options.

It’s great how many places are offering vegan and gluten free options now!
You live so close to where I grew up! One of my closest friends lives in NY now and she is gluten intolerant. Tulu’s is definitely one of her favorite places that I’ve taken her to.
Small world! Where did you grow up? East Village? What a great neighborhood!
Yummy!!!!! They look so cute.
