Mohegan Sun WineFest 2014
February 13th, 2014A-Tooch and Miss Niss were lucky enough to be invited to the Mohegan Sun WineFest again this year. We look forward to this event for a few reasons:
1) Mohegan Sun is equidistant between New York City and Boston, so it’s a perfect meeting place for us.
2) We love wine. A lot.
3) We also love to eat, and WineFest has plenty to eat!
4) We love beer, a perhaps lesser known (but almost equally important) part of the event; it keeps the men’s attention!
5) We love sampling wine, food and beer together! Not to mention, one of us got pretty lucky at a penny slots machine. There are many things to love about a room full of wine vendors, so we will share our favorites.
Our stay at Mohegan Sun including tickets to the WineFest were provided complimentary. As always, all opinion are our own.
Product Review: Skinny Cow Divine Filled Chocolates
April 7th, 2013With Lent and Passover coming to a close, something indulgent was just what TFAW were looking for. And boy did we have to
restrain ourselvespatiently wait to open these puppies.Skinny Cow sent us boxes of their new Divine Filled Chocolates — in Caramel and Peanut Butter Crème. A la rolo or reeses peanut butter cups, these chocolates are smooth and delicious. No favorite flavor here, we are equal opportunity eaters and tried them both.
The beauty of these chocolates is that they are lower in calorie (less than half the calories of a typical chocolate bar) but still taste like chocolate. None of that gross, chemical-ridden taste that is so common with lower cal foods.
Oh, and they even melt well, in case you want to dump the 130 calorie treat on your 300+ calorie ice cream. Just sayin’
Check out the Skinny Cow where to buy guide to find them near you!
Wicked Good Cupcakes Giveaway
March 25th, 2013TFAW have a special Easter treat for you today! You may remember we sampled Wicked Good Cupcakes almost a year ago — and we both loved them. The layers of moist cake and luscious frosting were full of flavor and the fresh taste remained until the last bite. Even after being shipped through the mail!
With Easter approaching, Wicked Good Cupcakes is sharing seasonal cupcakes in jars. One winner of this one-day-only giveaway will receive a box of Wicked Good Cupcakes Easter To Go Jars — two chocolate and two vanilla. Each cupcake in a jar is topped with a fondant Easter egg or bunny.
To enter, visit the Wicked Good Cupcakes website and tell us which classic flavor you’d like to try in a comment below. All entries are due by 8 PM ET on Monday, March 25. Good luck to all! Happy Easter and Happy Passover!
Update:
and the winner is…. Abbey C. Thanks for enteringProduct Review: Old Amsterdam Gouda
February 15th, 2013Since the beginning, our motto at TFAW has always been “If we don’t have something nice to blog, don’t blog it.” We’re no phonies, and share only our honest and candid feedback on products and restaurants we love. All positive energy (for the most part… unless you really irk us and we very seldom let that out… oops).
We love cheese so the odds were pretty good we would dig this Old Amsterdam gouda we received. Not as sharp and pungent as an aged gouda, Old Amsterdam has a great flavor, melts, slices and plays with others well. Look for it at one of our fav supermarkets across the U.S. – Trader Joe’s!

Sun WineFest at Mohegan Sun
February 1st, 2013TFAW had the awesome pleasure to be invited to this year’s Sun WineFest at Mohegan Sun in CT. How we missed out on this in prior years (the event just celebrated its 10th anniv!) – we have no clue.
The gargantuan event was really much more than wine. There were celebrity chefs, small food bites and tons of beer and breweries exhibiting. Oh, and liquor. A dangerous combination.

Mohegan is a convenient halfway point between Miss Yunks in Boston and A-Tooch in NYC. A great getaway for anyone in either city, really. We liked this event because you can truly ‘choose your own adventure.’ We sampled wines, stuffed our faces with good cheese, then moved upstairs to the (um, slightly more rowdy) beer floor.
But, we didn’t go out without a bang. On Sunday, we were treated to one of the most intense breakfast buffets either of us have experienced. At Seasons Buffet, breakfast is a steal at $12.50/adult, which includes eggs of any type, meat carving stations and enough pastries to open a full bakery. Or, you can create your own monster breakfast sandwich, like A-Tooch.
While the event ran from 12-5 on both Saturday and Sunday, the full three hours we spent boozing and schmoozing felt like more than enough
Note: While our entrance to the event and stay at Mohegan Sun was provided gratis, all opinions in this post are our own.
New England Dessert Showcase
September 21st, 2012Not that TFAW need a reason to reunite…but, dessert usually does the trick. Earlier this month, we joined forces in Boston for the first time in a while and attended the New England Dessert Showcase.
We picked up our gratis passes for the media/press VIP hour at 10:30 a.m., which to most may seem like an insanely early time to start eating desserts. Not the case for us. Desserts looped around the room and we sampled well, pretty much everything there was to offer. Since it was breakfast time, we started with a bite of waffle from Zinneken’s.
We’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking.

TFAW at the end – totally stuffed! And ready for lunch…
In the span of just an hour, we each consumed about 5 cookies/brownies, 3 chocolates/candies, 2 (small) pieces of cake, and one massive molten chocolate brownie sundae (don’t worry, we split that).
A-Tooch’s favorite was the Dark Chocolate Decadence from Finale Desserterie & Bakery — fudgy and dense with a hint of coffee. The Finale rep who served it made sure to tell me it was gluten free. Whatever. All I could think was “chocolate, chocolate, chocolate in my face.” Amazing.
Miss Yunks’ favorite was the molten chocolate cake from Chart House. The hot individual sized cakes would have impressed me alone; molten cake topped with a perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and Heath Bar crunch made me want to go back for more.
We had a great time savoring desserts from known favorite bakeries and new-to-us bakeries, restaurants and wholesale vendors.
To curb our intense sugar headaches, we headed to Five Napkin Burger for lunch
What’s the best dessert you’ve had lately?
Product Review: Alexia Lemon Parmesan Waffle Fries
September 19th, 2012It is no secret that TFAW love potatoes of all kinds. We didn’t have to question the new sample offer from Alexia to check out their latest flavor of oven-baked fries.
A couple things that make these frozen fries more interesting than most:
1. They are coated in a very unique and tasty lemon parmesan seasoning — strong and flavorful.
2. They bake up perfectly crispy and very not-greasy. Any frozen fry person will tell you that’s a hard balance to achieve.
3. They are waffle fries. Essentially the best type of fry you can eat. Hands down.To spice these up even more, A-Tooch made them two different ways. First, as garlic fries, adding about 1 tsp. of olive oil and 3-4 cloves of freshly chopped garlic on top of the fries with two minutes remaining in the oven. Second, with our own tried and true cheese sauce recipe. Total flavor burst.
Check these out in your local grocery story and the rest of the oven-baked fries line from Alexia.
