Miss Yunks was so excited to visit the new cupcake bar Treat that just opened on Highland Ave in Needham. I love that cupcake shops are popping up all over the place and each one has its own unique twist on the cupcake. Treat’s concept allows the customer to design and decorate his or her own cupcake. They also sell ready-to-go cupcakes for cupcake lovers with less creativity, or with less time.
I, of course, am very creative and made sure I had time to devote to my cupcake. I walked up to the cupcake bar and had some decisions to make. Vanilla, chocolate, or marble cake? I chose vanilla. Vanilla, chocolate or cream cheese frosting? Vanilla again. Then I got to pick three toppings. There are as many toppings (if not more) than a typical ice cream shop. Various candies, cookies, and fruits all lined in neatly in jars, waiting to be chosen for your cupcake. I chose peppermint patties, Oreos, and Golden Oreos. The toppings get mixed into the frosting the way they mix in toppings at Coldstone Creamery – on the counter with 2 spatulas. Then they put the frosting mixture in a cup next to your cupcake so you can frost yourself. Very smart.
The whole system is adorable, convenient, and delicious, and fun! I only used some of my frosting to top my cupcake because I wanted to save a little to eat plain with the fork. Gross, no?
Can you tell how huge this cupcake is? It’s really big. And it still tastes good – Treat is not all about the gimmicks, they care about flavor too. The vanilla cake was dense and moist and really tasted like vanilla. All the things I look for in a cake. The frosting was a little on the sweet side, but that may be because of all the toppings I added. I believe the cupcake cost $4.25. Definitely the most expensive cupcake around, but Treat offers more than just a cupcake; this is an experience. And this cupcake experience is certainly worth $4.25.
Even the napkins are adorable. If this little napkin isn’t enough for you, there is a bowl of wet-naps on each table to clean up after you eat. Simple yet genius idea.
The ready-made cupcakes look really good too; the frosting looks like an ice cream scoop. It’s a really cute idea to combine cupcake and ice cream methods in one cake dessert. If you haven’t been to Treat yet, I suggest you get pay it a visit. If you’ve already been, you probably want to go again by now…I know I do!

Great write-up! I visited Taste a little over a week ago, and can’t wait to go back. The place really is cute and creative, and the cupcakes are out-of-this-world good!
